Mullingar man still hasn't told family members about €50,000 scratch card win

Yesterday was a busy day for winners at National Lottery headquarters in Dublin as scratch card players from Westmeath, Meath and Clare claimed €105,000 in prizes between them.

The biggest of today’s scratch card winners was a Mullingar man who collected €50,000 – which he won on an All Cash Platinum scratch card.

The man – who wants to keep his win private – purchased the winning €5 All Cash Platinum scratch card at Rochfort’s Store on Dominick Street in Mullingar last Sunday.

As he collected his cheque for €50,000, the Westmeath native admitted that he hadn’t told a soul about his win but plans to surprise family members in the coming days with his news.

“It was a very strange weekend,” he said.

“When I’d scratched off all of the panels on the scratch card, I thought I’d made a mistake – there was no way I could have won €50,000!

“I had to wait until Monday morning to call the National Lottery so it was a huge relief when I heard that I had a winning ticket.

“I haven’t told a soul yet, I just need some time to gather my thoughts but I might tell the family in the coming days.

“It’ll mean that we’ll have a wonderful Christmas, that’s for sure,” he said.

Also celebrating a slice of good fortune was a Clare man who collected a €30,000 top prize, which he won on a €3 All Cash Tripler scratch card.

The man from the Banner county bought his winning ticket in Kilrush Post Office.

It was also a spectacular day for a delighted Meath man who picked up €25,000 on his lucky National Lottery All Cash scratch card.

The winning €10 All Cash Spectacular was bought at Reilly’s Londis store in Abbeylands, Navan.

Nearly 30 cent in every €1 spent on all National Lottery games go back to Good Causes in the areas of sport, youth, health, community, arts, heritage and the Irish language. In total more than €5.3 Billion has been raised for Good Causes since the National Lottery was established 30 years ago.
