New comedy drama on life with Alzheimer's

The new year is here and the holiday season is more or less finished, for now, but that doesn’t mean the fun and entertainment are over. At Mullingar Arts Centre, there is always lots going on, and the coming weeks include the following attractions.

‘Bothered and Bewildered’ is a comedy drama presented by Little Brother Productions about one woman’s struggle with Alzheimer’s.

The play follows Irene and her two daughters Louise and Beth as the girls lose their mother in spirit but not in body.

As her family struggle to come to terms with her Alzheimer’s, Irene’s past passion for romantic literature blurs with reality.

She spends hours discussing how best to write her ‘memory book’ with her imaginary friend and favourite author Barbara Cartland (the deceased world famous romantic novelist), disclosing long kept family secrets that she would never divulge to her daughters.

This tragi-comedy is about memory, loss, secrets and, above all, love.

• Thursday January 10 to Saturday January 12 at 8pm.

The Far Flung Trio are Katherine Hunka (violin), Dermot Dunne (accordion) and Malachy Robinson (bass). Getting 2019 off to a flying start, the Far Flung Trio are on tour in January and February with an irresistible musical programme that is virtuosic, eccentric and charming in their signature style.

The seductive melodies of Bizet’s Carmen and Rossini’s mischievous Barber of Seville overture, jazzy tunes by Gershwin and an original work by Irish jazz giant Ronan Guilfoyle – and lots more, all tailored by the Trio and delivered with panache and delight.

• Friday January 25 at 8pm in All Saints Church

Fresh from a sell-out tour, the star of BBC’s The Blame Game and Soft Border Patrol, Neil Delamere, returns to touring the country with a new show.

This time he thinks he has that whole “illusion of control” idea sussed. Then again he would think that, wouldn’t he?

• Friday January 25 at 8pm; tickets €25.
