Westmeath County Council statement: Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann coming to Mullingar in 2020

Westmeath County Council is delighted that Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann has chosen Mullingar as the venue for Fleadh Cheoil 2020.

Chief executive Pat Gallagher congratulated the hard working committee on their success and pledged that the council will continue to support the organising team with all necessary resources to make the Fleadh a success.

Mullingar Municipal District mayor, Cllr Bill Collentine, congratulated the Mullingar Comhaltas committee in bringing the fleadh back home.

Comhaltas was founded in Mullingar in 1951 and the first ever fleadh was in Mullingar that year.

He said that Mullingar is a strong and vibrant visitor destination with excellent restaurants, accommodation, amenities and high quality transport links which will deliver a traditional fleadh in 2020 to a superior standard.

The cathaoirleach of Westmeath County Council, Cllr John Dolan, welcomed the announcement and said the elected members are fully committed to supporting the fleadh in 2020 and beyond.

He said this is a great opportunity for Mullingar, the county and the wider region to showcase what the midlands has to offer as a visitor destination.
