Larissa’s new LP available
Country, gospel and crossover artist Larissa Tormey from Kilbeggan will thrill fans with her new acoustic EP which features intimate cover versions of hits from Lady Gaga, Blur, Sade, and Roberta Flack, as well as the title-track, Larissa’s own composition, the gorgeous ‘Inner Angel’.
The EP was released on July 3 and certainly showcases the vocalist’s adventurous side, with a selection of songs few would have expected. But for Larissa, great songs are great songs, and that fact more than anything else is what guided her choice.
“I’ve been planning to do an acoustic collection for a long time, and I think the songs on ‘Inner Angel’ - which are all so beautifully written, and have been performed so beautifully by the original artists - they all compliment simple, acoustic arrangements.
“They’re all famous love songs, and all songs that I absolutely love myself. People often talk about something being a labour of love, well that’s exactly what recording this EP was for me. I loved every moment of the whole process, and I can’t wait for fans to hear these songs and see what they think.”
While the inclusion of Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s ‘Shallow’, as well as Sade’s ‘Your Love Is King’, and Robert Flack’s ‘The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face’ are all easy to understand selections, there won’t be too many people out there who will have been expecting Larissa to cover ‘Tender’, a tune from Brit-Pop kings Blur!
“I know! Maybe some people will think I’m mad!” she laughs.”But maybe a lot of people might not know this song from Blur either. And I think if the first time they hear it is when they hear how I’ve recorded it on this EP, they wouldn’t believe that it was by a band like Blur. And that’s a compliment to the songwriting of the band. When you listen to the lyrics, ‘Tender’ is another really gorgeous love song. And love songs, regardless of whatever genre they originate from, they have a universal appeal and are able to reach hearts everywhere.”
And speaking of gorgeous love songs, Larissa’s skill as a songwriter is once again to the fore on the EP’s title-track, ‘Inner Angel’.
“This is a song that means a lot to me, and one I’ve wanted to release for a while. But I wasn’t sure where to fit it into everything else I was doing in my career. Now, though, on this EP, I think it’s found its perfect home at last.”
