Cronin to debut new material at festival dates

Mullingar based band Cronin are swapping the studio to play a select handful of festival dates, including the Marquee in Drumlish, Electric Picnic and the Dublin Beer Festival.

The foursome – Johnny and Mick Cronin, Fiachra Milner and Brian Murphy – have been working on recording a new album, a follow-up to the critically acclaimed debut The First Kiss Of Love, at Transmission Studios, Longford.

First up was the Marquee in Drumlish Festival on Sunday August 18. The hometown of brothers Johnny and Mick, who have just returned from their London show in The Boogaloo Bar, Highgate (where in the audience were none other than Hollywood actor Johnny Depp, Pogues legend Shane MacGowan, and Creation Records boss Alan McGee – the man who made Oasis).

The Marquee will be followed by Electric Picnic in Stradbally, County Laois on Sunday September 1 and The Dublin Beer Circus, Leinster Cricket Club on September 6.

Depp now counts himself a fan of the band, having performed with Johnny and Mick last November in Copenhagen, at the wedding of Shane MacGowan and Victoria Mary Clarke.

Cronin will be debuting some new material off the upcoming album - billed as “positive and life affirming”.

Recorded in the heart of the Drumlish countryside, the new 12-track album is about love, life and loss, and is influenced by the likes of Bruce Springsteen and Nick Cave, and even Stormzy makes an appearance in the subject matter, as does Cersei from GOT!

A duet with Anathema’s Vincent Cavanagh also features. The indie outfit will be performing old favourites across the three dates, so be sure to catch them at one of their upcoming gigs.
