Olympic BC excel in Wexford Box Cup

Olympic Boxing Club, Mullingar won best boxing club at the Wexford Box Cup on the weekend before last.

With over 400 boxers taking part and over 100 boxing clubs, Olympic BC claimed the top spot, winning eight gold medals and three silver medals.

Gold medal winners

Ava McNamee, Girl 1, 36kg; Niamh Keogh, Girl 2, 54kg; Alfie Jordan, Boy 2, 33kg; Patsy Joyce, Boy 3, 39kg; Jason Nevin, Boy 4, 57kg; Adam Daly, Youth 1, 54kg; Bonvie Ndevi, Youth 1, 85kg; Johnny Joyce, U18, 49kg.

Silver medal winners

Brian Daly (lost on split decision, 3-2), Lilly Jordan, Bernie Stokes. Also, well done to Jack McNamee, Michael Nugent and James Joyce, all of whom lost close fights in their semi-finals. Well done to our three boxers who are not officially Boy 1 till January, but travel with the team for some sparring and fights: Oisín Kiernan, Tom Stokes, John Donoghue.

All of this means that Olympic Boxing Club, Mullingar have won best boxing club at the Wexford Box Cup for the second year in a row. A big well done to all our boxers and coaches on another great week for the club.

Next up, Olympic BC has six boxers boxing in the Westmeath team against a strong Dublin outfit on November 24. Also, the club is heading to Waterford on December 8, and also have a Christmas show at their own club. So there’s a busy few months ahead!
