Student Players prepare for Phantom of the Opera

Report on rehearsals in this week's Westmeath Examiner

Hot on the heels of the hugely successful CATS!, the Mullingar Student Players are taking on The Phantom of the Opera as their spring production for 2016.

In 2003, a group of talented youngsters from the Mullingar area were assembled by Sean Lynch, director of Mullingar Arts Centre, with musical director, Angela Lynch.

This group came to be known as Mullingar Student Players.

Now, 12 years have passed since that first triumphant production of Les Miserables and the Student Players plan to take on The Phantom of the Opera as their spring 2016 production.

It runs from March 28 to April 3.

Auditions were held in late 2015 and the cast of 40 students have been rehearsing since January.

Phantom of the Opera has entranced audiences around the world with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s mesmerising and unforgettable score.

Arguably the most famous musical in the world, it tells the love story of Christine, who can’t resist the intrigue of the Phantom, a disfigured musical genius.

The scenery and special effects magically bring to life this legendary love story.

With enchanting music from musical director Niamh O’Shea including Music Of The Night, All I Ask Of You, Think Of Me, The Point Of No Return, Masquerade, Angel Of Music, Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again, The Phantom Of The Opera and haunting choreography from Aimee McManus, this promises to be another spectacular production from the Mullingar Student Players.

The Phantom of the Opera runs in Mullingar Arts Centre from March 28 to April 3. Tickets, €16/14 and are available now by calling 044 934 7777.
