You better shape up! Grease comes to Mullingar

You better shape up this July, because Mullingar Shamrocks are staging Grease!

They have plenty of experience on the stage, having recently presented a musical entertainment ranging from the Ultimate Classical Show with a Celtic Twist to Stars in Your Eyes, and now embark on their most ambitious project yet.

Grease will be performed in Mullingar Arts Centre on July 5-10, directed by Jemma McNamee, with Niamh O’Shea as the musical director, Chris Corroon responsible for the choreography and Aaron Purcell as stage manager.

Open auditions were held at the arts centre in April and people from as far away as Clara and Athlone attended.

The cast includes Ray Purcell as Danny Zuko, Amber Fleming as Sandy Dumbrowski, Sinead handy from Clara as Rizzo, Denis Corroon as Kenickie, Alex Roe from Clara as Doody, Keith Gough as Sonny, Zara Fitzgerald as Frenchie, Jemma Curran as Jan, Adam O’Connor as Rodger, Shane Barkey as Eugene, Laura Geraghty from Athlone as Patty, Nuala Murray as Ms Lynch.

Others include Tracey Monaghan, Shane Skerry, Jessica Corrigan, Sandy McCabe, Jes Steward, Katie Reilly, Anna Doolin, Dayna Whelan, Bob Madden and Hannah Egerton.

Ray Purcell participated in Annie, and last year’s pantomime, Cinderella, and is so dedicated to playing the Rydell High teen that he got rid of the facial hair he hadn’t been without since he was 19.

Amber Fleming previously had a YouTube channel where she regularly uploaded videos, which led to Niall Breslin writing and producing a song for her. Last year Amber won the Voice of Mullingar competition and this year she plans on taking part in the Mullingar G2T Factor in aid of Good2Talk Westmeath.

Join Danny and Sandy, along with the Pink Ladies, T-Birds and the rest of the gang at Rydell High for an electrifying, feel-good show. Don’t miss Grease... it’s Electrifying! And it runs at Mullingar Arts Centre on July 5-10. Tickets €15/12 (all tickets €10 on July 5).
