131 Covid cases in Westmeath in last 14 days

Cavan continues to register high numbers of Covid-19 infections as the latest statement from the National Public Health Emergency Team show a further 39 detected infections in the county.

131 new cases were reported in Westmeath in the last 14 days (28 Sep – 11Oct).

The 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 population (28 Sep – 11 Oct) for Westmeath is 147.6.

The Health Protection Surveillance Centre has today been notified of 1 additional death related to Covid-19.

They break down as follows; 254 in Dublin, 147 in Cork, 39 in Cavan, 38 in Donegal, 37 in Kildare and the remaining 310 cases are spread across 20 other counties.

The statement from the National Public Health Emergency Team shows that there has been a total of 1,827 COVID-19 related deaths in Ireland.

As of midnight Sunday 11 October the HPSC has been notified of 825 confirmed cases of COVID-19. There is now a total of 43,531 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ireland.

Of the cases notified today; 426 are men, 392 are women; 78% are under 45 years of age. The median age is 30 years old

As of 2pm today 224 COVID-19 patients are hospitalised, of whom 32 are in ICU. 20 additional hospitalisations in the past 24 hours.

Speaking at a Department of Health press briefing, Dr Tony Holohan said that there is no more time to be lost in the fight against the virus.

Dr Holohan said Ireland is around the mid-table at the rate the virus increasing, as all of Europe sees a resurgence of Covid: "Our first line of defence in relation this virus is our own individual behaviours," he said.
