305 new babies in just three months

The number of children born to Westmeath-based women in the three months from April to June of this year was 305, the latest figures from the Central Statistics Office reveal.
Of the 305, 160 were male and 145 were female.
The figures show that 200 of the babies – just under two out of every three – were born to parents who are married or in a civil partnership, with a further 75 born to parents who live at the same address.
Six of those who gave birth were under 20 years of age; 34 were aged between 20 and 24, and 22 were aged 40 or over.
Of the other age groups, 60 were aged between 25 and 29; 110 between 30 and 34, and 73 between 35 and 39.

Deaths
Over the same period, 144 deaths of Westmeath residents were registered, 68 of them being male and 76 female.
The figures show that 48 of the Westmeath deaths were due to diseases of the circulatory system, and 41 due to malignant neoplasm, with diseases of the respiratory system accounting for 22 more.
Of the remaining death, seven were ascribed to 'external causes’, and 26 to all other causes.
