Bethlehem is a town where there is so little employment and as the tourist members drop there is little hope for many young people. These crosses are made in a Youth Project for Christians. By buying a cross we are helping them. The cost is €20 and we are guaranteed that a minimum of 40% goes directly to the various parishes in which they are made. We are asked to consider buying one for our home or to pass on as a gift. Philip Epps for the following report. 'On Sunday March 29th a group of more than 50 took to the by-ways around Streete Parish Hall for a walk to raise funds for the church at Boherquill. The party was made up of local parishioners and members of the Boherquill Ramblers. The walkers included Mgr. Earley and Fr. Joe McGrath The cool rainy weather encouraged everyone to keep up a smart pace as did the thought of tea and biscuits back in the warmth of the hall at the end of the four-mile walk.At the end of the walk the parish priest Fr. Joe thanked all who had attended the proceedings, especially those in the Ramblers from outside the parish and the committee and ladies of the parish hall who provided the facilities and refreshments for the afternoon as well as the musicians, for their contribution at the end of the afternoon.Fr. Joe stressed the importance of the social side of the occasion as the Ramblers and parishioners got to know each other during the afternoon. This social connection is a regular part of the Ramblers gatherings as demonstrated by the interest in the recent trip to Strangford for St. Patrick"s Day which was made such a success by the efforts of Caroline and Peter McErlean of The Cuan in Strangford, Paddy O"Brien who provided the coach which was driven by Brian Nerney and also Patricia Bruton who managed the finances so ably. With the trip to Wales now just a couple of weeks away, Olive McCormack has asked that those who have not already given her the money for the visit should do so by next Sunday, April 5th as the funds will have to be forwarded to pay for bookings in Wales. The annual walk from Granard to Abbeylara in aid of St. Christopher"s Centre in Longford will take place on next Sunday, April 5th, starting at 3p.m. at the convent in Granard. As in previous years the Ramblers will be pleased to join the walk for such a deserving cause and cars will leave Boherquill at the later than usual time of 2.30p.m.
