Kilbeggan defeated in semi-final

Cumann Na mBunscoil/ Semi-Final : The game took place in Miltown. The weather was fine on the day. Kilbeggan took an early lead at the start of the match. It looked liked it was to be Kilbeggan"s day but unfortunately it was not to be Gainstown fought back valiantly to try to get back into the game and so they did.Kilbeggan played well but Gainstown were the stronger team and at the end of the first half Kilbeggan were loosing 0-4 to 3-5. In the first few minutes of the second half Gainstown scored a number of points. Kilbeggan scored only two points in the second half. Gainstown were in control and went on to win 3-8 to 0-6. Gainstown were glad to get back into the finals again but there was great disappointment for Kilbeggan.Thanks to all the teachers, especially Mr P Seery, Mr C Moore and of course the Principal Mr N Rabbitte. Parents were there in big numbers to support, including Donal Fox. Donal played more than thirty years ago, with many others,on the last occasion that our school reached the final rounds. Donal is now Chairperson of Kilbeggan / St. joseph minor football club. Even though the match was lost on this occasion, the future looks bright ! The Embassy is offering Irish students a chance to engage in language homestay programmes in the coming summer.Mercy students argue the point at Dublin CastleTransition year students at Mercy School in Kilbeggan did their school and county proud when at the Mock European Council held at Dublin Castle last week.Conall Ennis, Mary Killian and Kathryn Nea represented Estonia as the Mock Counicl debated and voted on the issue of whether or not EU Member States should produce 50% of their energy from renewable energy sources by 2020.At the council debate the Estonian Ambassador to Ireland, Andre Pung, was on hand to advise the Kilbeggan team on the position they were defending.The event at Dublin Castle was attended by 32 schools, which represented European Member States, the European Institutions and lobby groups from the oil, aviation and car industries.
