Three sought for terror attack on Ballinagore man

Gardaí in Kilbeggan and Athlone are investigating an aggravated burglary in which a 78-year-old man living in the Kilbeggan area, was put through a terrifying fifteen minute ordeal, when he was threatened with a bread knife by three males who broke into his home on Friday night last.The elderly man who lives in the Ballinagore area of Kilbeggan, was in bed at the time the break-in occurred, which was at approximately half ten at night.He was woken when the three culprits entered his home by smashing a window at the front of the house. The assailants made their way into the man’s bedroom, where it is believed they shone a torch on him, and ordered him into the kitchen, where they threatened him with a breadknife.They searched the house and according to a Garda spokesperson, the men were looking for drugs, and not cash. Property and documents from the house were later discovered in a laneway next to the house.The men, who wore gloves throughout the entire incident have been described as being in their twenties. One was tall, roughly six foot, while the other two were slightly smaller. It is also believed the same three men are wanted in relation to an attempted burglary, which took place in the Ballinagore area the night before, when they were seen driving a blue car.Gardaí in Kilbeggan are conducting door to door enquiries and a technical examination of the scene is being carried out by the Garda Scenes of Crime Unit.
