Sharon Shannon to play in The Stables

Meteor award winner Sharon Shannon brings her stripped-back acoustic band to Mullingar to play an intimate gig in The Stables on Thursday, April 2, with special guests The Shy Talks.Described by most as "the greatest Irish musician of her generation', Sharon Shannon will be joined by Gerry Banjo O"Connor, Mike McGoldrick, Dezi Donelly and Tim Edey, who will be performing songs from Sharon"s latest album Renegade.Renowned for her high energy live shows and her collaborations across all musical genres, from the avant-garde classical with Nigel Kennedy, to outlaw-country music with Willie Nelson, the new album and line-up sees Sharon explore new hip-hop rhythms with her predominantly traditional compositions.Renegade is Sharon"s first studio album since 2003. Following the success of the Double Platinum Collection 2005 and Live at Dolan"s DVD which went straight to number one in the charts last year, Sharon is back with an album which showcases her constantly expanding musical landscape and her ability to cross over into new musical genres. Be prepared for a heady mix of traditional Irish with hip-hop beats, ragga, jazz and world music inflections.Special guests on the night are the trad based group The Shy Talks, consisting of several members from local bands including Johnny Owens on fiddle (Innate and Cúnla), Ger Toal on cello (Peter Doran and Cúnla), Jason Carroll on bass (Cúnla) and Johnny Mulligan on Banjo.
