Mullingar shop part of record store day

The e2 music store on Castle Street, Mullingar will be one of just seven stores across Ireland to take part in Record Store Day on Saturday, April 18, which celebrates independent record stores around the world.This is the one day that all of the independently owned record stores come together with artists to celebrate the art of music. Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen and Metallica are some of the driving forces behind the 2009 Record Store Day, which was founded in 2007.The day aims to promote the unique culture surrounding over 700 independently owned record stores in the USA, and hundreds of similar stores internationally.Special vinyl and CD releases and various promotional products are made exclusively for the day and hundreds of artists in the United States and in various countries across the globe make special appearances and performances. Festivities include performances, cook-outs, body painting, meet and greets with artists, parades, djs spinning records and on and on. Metallica officially kicked off Record Store Day at Rasputin Music in San Franscisco last year and Record Store Day is now celebrated the third Saturday every April.In Mullingar, e2 are having live music in the shop all day from local bands Arrow in the Sky, Dara J, and dj Belly Savalas. It is rumoured that other acts such as the Meteor Award winning The Blizzards, as well as The Aftermath and new Mullingar band Ever27 may also make an appearance.There will be plenty of giveaways up for grabs so make sure to drop by e2 on April 18.
