Mullingar-born soprano Ailish Tynan will perform at the National Concert Hall this weekend, as the Dublin venue bids farewell to the Haydn Year - the 200th anniversary of the death of composer, Joseph Haydn.

Ailish has garnered a reputation as one of Ireland's finest sopranos, and that reputation has taken her across Europe and beyond to impress audiences and critics alike.

On Saturday night next, the Westmeath native will perform for a home audience in Haydn's Mass No. 9, 'Nelson', accompanied by the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, in a night devoted to the Austrian composer.

A former student of Trinity College, the Royal Irish Academy of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London, Ailish won the Rosenblatt Recital Prize at the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition in 2003.

Her recent opera engagements include her highly acclaimed company and role debuts as Héro in Berlioz's 'Béatrice et Bénédict' (Houston Grand Opera) and Sophie in Richard Strauss' 'Der Rosenkavalier' (Royal Swedish Opera).

As a celebrated concert singer, Ailish's other recent highlights include a performance for Handel's 'Messiah' on the opening night of the BBC Proms, Orff's 'Carmina Burana' with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the role of Ännchen in Carl Maria von Weber's 'Der Freischütz' at the Edinburgh International Festival.

Ailish works frequently with all the BBC orchestra, the RTÉ NSO, and the Ulster Orchestra.

Saturday night's concert at the NCH's Main Auditorium starts at 8pm, and also includes Haydn's Symphony No. 67, and his Sinfonia Concertante for violin, cello, oboe and bassoon.
