Mullingar bands aim for Meteor award

Two local bands are setting their sights on a Meteor Award - Ever27 and Seven Days, are hoping to get their fans support and win a nomination for Meteor's Most Promising New Artist for 2010.

Ever27 launched themselves onto the music scene one year ago and could never have foreseen what a whirlwind year it would turn out to be.

Playing college gigs all across Ireland, plus support slots with bands such as Delorentos and The Blizzards - the last Olympia gig firmly planting these three guys and one gal, as the ones to watch for the year ahead.

Ricky Byrne from Rochfortbridge is the drummer for the recently formed Seven Days, which is managed by Mullingar men Carl Brogan and Anthony Doran of The Blizzards.

Having played the New Bands stage at Oxegen last summer, Seven Days have hit the ground running, playing support to the likes of The Coronas and The Blizzards, and will their largest gig to date with none other than The Aftermath when they headline the Olympia in February - a busy month for the boys who will also be flying to London in February to record their first EP with producer Greg Haver of Manic Street Preachers fame.

Both bands are hoping to be nominated for the prestigious Meteor Award but they need your help, so get voting immediately.

Ever27 are hoping to win that Meteor award with a song called "Shadows", which was produced by Blizzards frontman Niall Breslin.

"We put the video - which was made from videoclips on people's mobiles, onto the web on Thursday and within no time we had over 360 hits," says Brendan McEvoy, lead singer of Ever27.

"We chose that song because it's the one that makes everybody raise their hands in the air at our gigs, it's the one that people really seem to enjoy and we've getting a brilliant response to it so far.

"We're going in the right direction with this song and we hope to officially release it in March. We're now ready - as a band - to push ahead with everything. I think we needed the year to let things happen naturally and that's exactly what's happening now."

Seven Days have chosen a song called "Harder to Breath", which you can vote for on the Meteor site or by logging onto www.facebook.com/sevendaysofficial.

All you have to do to vote for your favourite local band is go to http://meteormusicawards.meteor.ie/competitions/.

The public will initially decide on the top 10 rated songs as dictated by web viewers. A panel of music business professionals will then select a short list of five songs from the 10 to go forward for a national public vote to decide the winner.

The public will be able to view the final songs on the Meteor Ireland Music Award's website. The song that receives the most votes will be the winner. The winner will receive a Live performance on New Band Stage3 Oxegen 2010, Live performance on Pop 4 on TG4, One Day's recording in Grouse Lodge Recording Studios, One Day's Mastering in Masterlabs, 150 CD singles, with designed artwork, Designed CD sleeve and photo shoot with top celebrity photographer Barry McCall, Radio/PR distribution, and finally the winner/group will be presented with award for the Most Promising New Artist 2010 at the Meteor Ireland Music Awards on February 19, 2010.
