Lisbon Treaty Nos

Dear Editor,

I would be most grateful if you would allow me the space in your publication to comment on the fallout from the vote on the Lisbon Treaty, that is of course if you have overcome your regret at the outcome! First of all, you made a comment in your editorial last week about one step backwards to take two steps forward! Are you suggesting that the people who voted "no" are backwards?

The problem is with the vast bulk of the media so-called professionals in this country is that they were driven by a pro-Lisbon Treaty agenda, and they have the bare faced cheek to assume that they know, apart from politicians and the business organisations, what is best for this country!

Last June 12th, the people of the Republic of Ireland, decided that they were no longer listening to, or believing the propaganda machine that is the bulk of the media outlets in this country, singing the praises of the Lisbon Treaty, while pouring scorn on the "No" campaign. The so-called state broadcaster led the way in this regard!

The infantile reaction of politicians, both in this country, and in Europe, to the outcome of the vote on the referendum, is both worrying and concerning! I can only assume that the EU is bringing about the creation of a Fourth Reich, and is not about democracy! When interviewed on R.T.E. radio last week, Dick Roche T.D. seemed more interested in talking about where MEP"s socialise when they are in Brussels, rather than exploring the reasons why the Lisbon Treaty was rejected in this country! Gay Mitchell MEP more or less told the Irish people that they had no right to vote down the Lisbon Treaty. However, this is the same fellow who twittered a few short years ago about bringing the summer Olympic Games to Dublin!

The "no" vote in the Republic of Ireland has shown the true face of the E.U., its mark of democracy torn away at last, exploring it"s arrogance, and it"s true nature, as personified by Mr. Barroso. Joining the E.E.C. (not the E.U.) in 1973 has brought many benefits to this country, that is something everyone can almost agree on. I say almost, because what was the Treaty of Rome really about in 1957? Was there a hidden agenda 51 years ago? Or is it now a case of a few power hungry politicians, both in this country, and in Brussels, eager to build a empire to satisfy their lust for power, and to satisfy their collective egos?

Yours sincerely,

David Kelly,

Collinstown.
