Supervisors at the site of the new Robinstown Link Road assess the partially completed River Brosna bridge.

Westmeath County Council is continuing its work on the €12m Robinstown Link Road, which will link the Castlepollard Road from the roundabout at the entrance to Lough Sheever Corporate Park, to the Delvin Road adjacent to St. Loman's Hospital.

When completed, the 1600m roadway will consist of a 7m wide two lane carriageway flanked by two 1.5m wide cycleways, two 2m wide grass verges and two 2m wide footpaths.

The road will provide access to 477 acres of residential, industrial and public amenity lands in Mullingar North and will facilitate greater access to the town centre, thus contributing to Mullingar's ability to develop as a Gateway town.

This new distributor route will reduce congestion in the town by providing an alternative to traffic which wishes to gain access to car parks and schools.

Construction works began in May 2008 and to date €3m has been expended. Assuming continued grant assistance from the Department of Transport, the expected completion date is December 2011.
