Pat Whelan resigns from Fine Gael

Comments (0) | Print | Email

Former Mullingar Town Council member Pat Whelan has dramatically, this evening, Sunday, announced his resignation from Fine Gael.

Mr. Whelan strengthened his announcement by posting it on his Facebook page, stating that he had resigned from the party, but giving no reason.

The move will come as a surprise to many in political circles: until the Mullingar Fine Gael agm on Thursday evening last, he was secretary of the local Fine Gael branch.

Last year, Mr. Whelan, an accountant, announced he was resigning from Mullingar Town Council, but he later changed his mind, and ran again in the local elections, but failed to regain his seat.

    Pat will be missed from politics. He was the only person back in 2003/04 that warned us all in Mullingar of the consequences of the Hanly Report and how it would affect our Mullingar Hospital. He was correct and some people said he was scare mongering. He was proved to be correct. He was also very outspoken and spoke his mind and reported on what the ordinary man and woman on the streets of Mullingar were thinking when we had the very bad traveller riots back in 2008 and the subsequent bad publicity our great town received at national and international level. I hope that we will see Pat again in some form of political/local activity.

    Im not a member of any political party.

    I'm just speaking personally as someone who

    Pat Whelan helped he was a total gentleman

    and did his best for me where others closed the door in my face.He will be missed. It's not a case

    of FF versus FG or Labour or anyone else for that

    FF = Fail

    Democracy is wasted on fools

    This country needs a good dictatorship.

    Such an individual would implement a large scale ship building program to get rid of all the immigrants and nackers

    Investment in both the Green Economy/ Smart Economy & Ireland's infrastructure will stimulate jobs and cut crime. It will also cease the massive amounts of our hemorrhaging into the pockets of these carbon sacks

    Lorcan the word good could never be used in the same sentence as dictatorship!!! Remember a nasty little man named Adolf Hitler. We are privileged to live in a democracy half of the world is not.

    I do agree that the goverment policy on immigrants shows a serious lack of judgement and as for the 'nackers' well they have taken the taxpayers of this country for a ride for years and still are it is laughable they contribitute nothing to society yet are first in line for hand outs it is just so wrong
