Gardaí in Mullingar are appealing for witnesses after a robbery at one of the town’s betting shops yesterday, Wednesday, evening.
Around 8.50pm, two men entered the Ladbrokes bookmakers on Dominick Street and appeared to be brandishing handguns.
They held a female staff member and two male customers at gunpoint, yelling at them to lie on the floor, while stealing a sum of money, believed to be in the region of €5,000 from the bookies.
The two offenders were described as wearing casual clothing and had scarves hiding their faces.
It is understood that both the member of staff and the two customers were in a severe state of shock following the hold-up which lasted only minutes.
Witnesses who may have seen anything unusual or suspicious taking place around that time on Wednesday evening are asked to contact gardaí at the Mullingar Station on 044 9384000, or on the Garda Confidential Number: 1 800 666 111.
