Judge Hughes says mothers of Ireland should be honoured

After hearing that a woman who was prosecuted for having no TV licence, was the mother of nine children, a local district judge has said women as her “should be honoured by the State”. Judge Seamus Hughes was addressing the woman who appeared before a sitting of Mullingar District Court.

“These women are providing the State with the next generation of taxpayers. They are great women. I mean that”, he decleared.

“Thank you, Judge”, replied the defendant, who had told the court four of her children are reared but five are still living with her.
