Free parking for four Saturdays in Blackhall

Westmeath County Council are to deliver a timely boost to the business community in Mullingar with the introduction of limited free parking.

Following the passing of a motion at Monday’s Mullingar Area Committee, the council are to allow for free parking in their largest car park in Blackhall, over the next four Saturdays.

The motion, originally tabled at a Mullingar Town Council meeting by Cllr Aidan Davitt, was brought forward to the Area Meeting by Cllr Detty Cornally.

Director of services Dave Hogan strongly advised the members not to press the motion as they simply could not afford to lose that amount of revenue.

However, a compromise was reached when Cllr Aidan Davitt suggested that over the next three to four weeks, while works on the installation of the new watermain continue, free parking should be available on Saturdays, with the car park in Blackhall being the selected location.
