Mullingar's musical men attracting the masses to International Horseshow

One of Ireland’s largest equine events generated particular interest this week as it unveiled a 'homage’ of famous natives including One Direction’s Niall Horan.
The 7th Mullingar International Horseshow will take place this weekend Friday 30 until Monday June 2. Show Director, Robert Fagan spoke at the launch of the many new innovations that are happening at this year’s show where the prize fund has increased to a staggering €80,000.
The International Horse show in partnership with Westmeath Community Development has come up with a novel way to promote Mullingar and the surrounding areas. They have developed six new featured jumps for the international grand prix arena, depicting famous places, companies and history around. The highlight of this is the “Musical Mullingar” show jump featuring musical artists Joe Dolan, Foster and Allen, Bressie and Niall Horan.
The impressive jump was launched last week by members of each artist’s family and by Mick Foster himself.
“We are really excited about this year’s show and have made every effort over the last number of months to ensure Mullingar and the surrounding areas really benefit from the weekend,” said show director Robert Fagan.
“Apart from the attention generated by 'Musical Mullingar’, we have two new featured categories added to this year’s schedule; Mullingar International Amateur Grand Prix and the Mullingar International Pony Championships along with an outstanding Country Fayre which appeals to people from all walks of life. Also, the Pro Am, where 12 local young riders will be paired with some of the best international show jumpers, is in aid of the North Westmeath Hospice this year, and we are delighted to be in a position to support such a great cause.”
The show is also hosting its infamous Country Fayre and Food village again this year which drew in enormous crowds last year. With interest in local produce, they organisers of the show have assure the visitor of top quality locally sourced award winning food. Some of the producers will be David Smyth, Pizza’s from Lilliput Loaf Company and homemade Ice Cream from Bridgefield Ice Cream also some French treats from Canard Sauvage. Equestrian and crafts  stalls will be on display also.
Other exciting features of the show include children’s entertainment - free pony rides, face painting, animal pet farm, climbing wall, archery, a fun fair and lots more; a canine challenge in which dogs of all shapes and sizes are welcome to participate in what is sure to be a brilliant show. Come and support man’s best friend as they attempt to win the large dog high jump title Monday at 2pm date or our smaller friends at 1pm. Renowned International Dog Behaviourist and Trainer to judge, Sarah Noegard, will be in attendance to lend her expertise.
