VIDEO: Snake-like creature found in Mullingar back garden

Eight-year-old Cathal Murray found this odd looking snake-like creature when he was playing football in his grandmother’s garden in Woodland’s Avenue in Mullingar yesterday evening, Thursday July 31.

Measuring ten inches in length, and with a forked tongue, this is the second discovery of what some people are describing as a “slow worm”.

Film footage was gathered yesterday afternoon by Cathal’s dad Declan who said he was “horrified” when he saw the speed at which it was moving at.

“This is the second time we found one of these. We found one about four weeks ago and I was horrified by it. Then yesterday we found another one,” Declan told the Westmeath Examiner

“We just found it slithering around the back garden. The thought enters your mind if there is anyone keeping snakes nearby. It’s about ten inches long with a forked tongue and it’s a horrible looking thing. I've never seen anything like it before.

“I’d be interested to see if anyone could shed any light on to it to see if it is actually a slow worm or possibly snake.”
