Ballinahown is tops in westmeath in tidy towns 2014

Ballinahown has won top place in Westmeath in the Tidy Towns Competition, with 311 marks out of a possible 400.

The national winner was Kilkenny, which was just nine points ahead of Ballinahown, with 320 marks.

Second place in Westmeath went to Tyrrellspass with 288 points; third to Glasson with 282, and fourth to Athlone with 275.

Mullingar obtained 263 points.
