The 5.30pm class Woman of the Year Rosie Rooney with Slimming World consultant Sandra McGowan.

Its the little things that make it all worthwhile

Rosie Rooney from Ennel Court in Mullingar has been crowned Woman of the Year at the 5.30 class of Slimming World in Bloomfield House Hotel.

Having reared seven children, Rosie had been overweight for most of her life, and tried every diet pill on the market – but nothing worked until she began attending Slimming World.

“I started in March of this year. I had lost my job and had put on an awful lot of weight. My daughter-in-law had heard about Slimming World and asked me if I’d like to join, so I went because I wasn’t at anything else, but I never thought it would work,” Rosie admits.

“I had tried every tablet on the market and I’ve been overweight most of my life. From the minute I walked into the class it was great.

"Sandra [McGowan] greeted me and made me feel so welcome and I was surrounded by a circle of people that have become my friends. They’re like family really, we’re all in the same boat and the support we get from one another is second to none,” she explains.

“I started out at nearly 18 stone and my goal is to reach nine stone. To date I’ve lost 4 stone and 1.5lbs and I’m over the moon. I’m doing things that I haven’t been able to do for years, like picking up my grandchildren.

"It’s the little things like that which make it all worthwhile and pushes you to go further.

“I also had chronic asthma because of my weight and was on four inhalers, but I haven’t had to use an inhaler in four weeks, it’s absolutely amazing,” she says.

Rosie says it’s the diet plan that is really helping her lose the weight but she also likes to go for a walk in the evenings to help her clear her head.

“When I was awarded Woman of the Year, I felt like a million dollars. I didn’t expect it at all but it’s great to get the clap on the back for all the hard work I’m putting in.

“I’d like to thank everyone at Slimming World and in particular, Sandra, who gives us great support. My advice to anyone thinking of doing Slimming World is to get off your backside and go and do! It’s worth it!”
