Garda investigating ballymore shooting incident

A garda team spent approximately two hours in Ballymore this evening, examining the scene of a shooting that happened at approximately 7.40 pm.

It is understood that four shots were fired from someone in the passenger seat of a people-carrier type vehicle travelling from the Low Street direction, through High Street.

A car was damaged, but the believed target is understood to have escaped injury.

The shooting happened at High Street, where a number of businesses are located, and locals say that the incident placed the lives of staff and customers of the businesses in danger.

A short time after the shooting, a car was burnt out on the Ballymahon Road, just a couple of hundred yards from the village.  It is believed the two incidents are connected.
