Mullingar Cathedral

Two local men to be ordained in mullingar this month

Two ordinations are to take place at Mullingar Cathedral towards the end of this month.

The two men to be ordained are Rev Declan Kelly and Rev Ciaran Clarke.

Rev Kelly's ordination is to take place at 3 pm on Sunday next, September 21, while on Sunday September 28, also at 3 pm, Rev Clarke will be ordained.

Rev Kelly (26) attended school in St Colmcille’s, Gainstown and St Finian’s College before he began his studies for the priesthood.  At present he is assisting as a deacon in St Mary’s Parish, Navan.

Rev Clarke (32) grew up in Dysart and is known to many in Mullingar, having worked in St Francis Medical Centre, Ballinderry prior to his seminary training which began in 2007.  He completed his studies in Maynooth last May.  He has served at various times in the parishes of Trim and Tullamore.

Meanwhile, Bishop Colm O’Reilly will lead an hour of prayer for priests and people of the diocese on Wednesday 24 September at 7pm in the Cathedral. All are welcome.

"The Holy Hour will focus on the theme of renewal of priesthood and on vocations to the priesthood," said Fr Paul Crosbie, of Mullingar parish, this week, adding that all parishioners are asked to pray for priests and for vocations.

"This time of prayer will be an opportunity for the parish to fulfil this request in common."

Bishop O’Reilly was the Bishop of Ardagh and Clonmacnois from 1983 until  2013.  He is currently overseeing the reconstruction of St Mel’s Cathedral in Longford, a project which is almost completed.
