Donal's Mountain – Fionnbar Walsh, author of the book and founder of the Donal Walsh LIVElife Foundation, is the guest speaker at the Good2Talk event this Sunday.

Show your support during world mental health week

Good2Talk Counselling and Psychotherapy Support Services in Mullingar are hosting a series of free events this weekend to coincide with World Mental Health Week.

Good2Talk is a voluntary organisation located between MABS and Mullingar Garda Station. Over the next few days you will see their volunteers around the town providing information on this much needed service in the community.

The main event is on Sunday October 12, when the Annebrook House Hotel hosts where a free mental health awareness event takes (2-5pm).

Good2Talk volunteers will be joined by a number of groups and exhibitors presenting ways for people to get involved in positive mental health and wellbeing projects over the winter months.

The guest speaker on the day is Fionnbar Walsh, author of the book Donal’s Mountain and founder of the Donal Walsh LIVElife Foundation. Fionnbar will talk about how his son inspired a nation with the simple message of ‘live life’.

Following the events in the Annebrook, there will be a ‘Live Life -Let it go’ floating lights ceremony in Mullingar Town Park. This will be a moment for members of the public to light a floating flower candle and place it on the pond in a symbolic gesture of letting go of past difficult experiences and present-day concerns.

Pat Gavin, director at Good2Talk, said: “It is a day when families can come together and acknowledge losses and concerns. By lighting the floating candle and placing it on the pond we offer you an opportunity to ‘live life and let it go’.

“All members of the public are invited to join us in this beautiful symbolic opportunity. This is a way for us to bring about an awareness of our service and to encourage people in our community to work towards maintaining positive mental health and wellbeing.

“We are delighted with the public’s support so far and look forward to welcoming you along to our unique event this Sunday.”

You will also see the Good2Talk volunteers out in force this Saturday October 11 on Market Square, Mullingar from 10am to 5pm, where they will be available to offer support and information in relation to mental health, to members of the public.

Please join them in raising awareness by showing your support during World Mental Health Week, and remember, it’s always Good2Talk.
