An example of Michael Wann's charcoal work, which will be exhibited at Mullingar's Chimera Gallery for the next three weeks

Head of arts council to attend chimera gallery exhibition launch

The chairperson of the Irish Arts Council, Sheila Pratschke, will be the guest of honour as the fourth exhibition of the year at Mullingar’s Chimera Gallery opens this Saturday night (October 18).

The gallery, run at Spoutwell Lane by Delvin man and Limerick native Dave O’Shea, opened its doors on March 1, and is the realisation of Dave’s long-held dream to develop a prominent and permanent art gallery, to share works by a wide variety of artists from all over the world.

The fourth and final artist to open an exhibition at Chimera this year will be Sligo-based artist Michael Wann. The exhibition, entitled 'River and Road’, will feature charcoal drawings in various sizes, produced by one of Ireland’s finest charcoal artists.

Representatives of the Office of Public Works, art critics and journalists and of course Ms Pratschke will meet with art lovers from Mullingar and beyond, and with each passing exhibition, Dave becomes more convinced that the decision to open a gallery in Mullingar was the right one.

“People are very welcome to come along on Saturday night, to have a look, and to take in the sights and the sounds. Nobody is pressured to buy,” said Dave, a former soldier with a lifelong passion for art.

“We’ll have food from Miller and Cook and wine from Wines Direct. It’s great to get local business involved, and we’d like to see local people there.”

The Wann exhibition runs for three weeks, and is the last before the Chimera Gallery prepares for its first ever Christmas show.

Saturday night’s launch runs from 6-9pm, and for more details, you can log on to chimera-gallery.com, michaelwann.com, or phone Dave on 087 803 8357.
