Batten down the hatches as storm gonzalo hits tonight

Heavy rain, wind and thunder are all forecast for tonight, Monday, as the remnants of Hurricane Gonzalo reaches Irish shores this evening.

The worst of the storm is expected to hit Connaught and Ulster, but no matter where you are tonight, make sure to drive safely as winds are expected to increase to 70-100kms overnight.

With Met Éireann issuing a status yellow warning for Leinster, there is potential for power outages, falling trees and local flooding.

Coming into Tuesday, winds will remain strong until the afternoon, and it will remain cold.
