Woman being treated in mullingar hospital following longford carjacking

A woman is being treated at the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar as a result of injuries received when her car was carjacked in Longford – with her in it – and later crashed. 

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the alleged assault and carjacking incident , which took place at approximately 5.55pm.

The woman, aged in her 40s, was confronted at knifepoint by two males as she returned to her car at a car park on Ballymahon St., Longford.

She was forced into the car and driven from the scene at speed.

According to gardaí, the car was observed and followed by gardaí.

A short time later on the Athlone Road the car left the road and struck a ditch.

The woman was taken from the scene by ambulance to Mullingar Hospital. She is continuing to receive treatment to her injuries which are described as not life threatening.  A male in aged in his 20s was also taken from the scene by ambulance. He was removed to Tullamore Hospital. A second male fled from the scene on foot.

A technical examination of the car is currently underway and the investigation is ongoing.

Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses. They are particularly appealing to anyone who was in the vicinity of a car park (known locally as Heaton’s Car Park) on Ballymahon St., Longford, between 5.30pm and 6pm to contact them.
