Ipb pride of place awards to be streamed live

Tomorrow (Saturday) night’s 2014 IPB Pride of Place Awards will be broadcast live online, the organisers say.

Up to 1,000 people from all over Ireland will gather in Treacys West County Hotel in Ennis for a ceremony hosted by Clare County Council and Co-operation Ireland, which runs the competition north and south of the border.

Tom Dowling, chairman of the Pride of Place Initiative, said: “The competition aims to recognise and celebrate the vital contributions that communities all over the island of Ireland make to their place. Now in its 12th year, this competition is regarded as Ireland’s most prestigious all-island community awards.

“We are delighted this year’s ceremony is being held in Ennis, which has a proud tradition in this competition. I am also pleased that IPB is once again the headline sponsor of the competition and that Co-operation Ireland continues to host the awards as one of its key community initiatives,” added Mr. Dowling.

Fifty groups nominated by local authorities all over Ireland are participating in this year’s 2014 IPB Pride of Place competition.

The main category winners in 2013 included Clogher le Chéile (Donegal), Donaghmoyne (Monaghan), Kilcummin (Kerry), Miltown Malbay (Clare), Kilmore Quay (Wexford), Horseleap Streamstown (Westmeath), Megargy and District Game and Conservation Society Magherafelt (Derry), Ballina (Mayo), Valenria Island (Kerry), Castleview Residents Association (Limerick), Waterford County Comhairle na nÓg, Beara Breifne Way (Cork) and St Christopher’s Arts Programme (Longford).
