Revised water charge plans unveiled

The government has just unveiled its revised plans for charging for water.

The key measures are:

  • Annual cap of €160 for single adult households and €260 for all others.
  • Legislative provision to allow capping continue after 2019
  • Water conservation grant of €100 per year to all “eligible” households (“eligible” households are those that register.
  • For metered bills, the charge for water in/out is reduced to €3.70 per 1,000 litres
  • Starting date for domestic water charging is moved back to January 1 next; with first bills due from the first week of April 2015
  • PPS numbers not required.
  • Households with either water supply only or sewerage only to pay 50 per cent of the new rates.
