Drumroll countdown to big event for mullingar

In April work started on a new annual international festival that will take place in Mullingar for the first time in July 2015 – and today, Friday November 21, all will be revealed to Mullingar!

“My daughter, Melanie, was taking part in the Westmeath Rose as part of the Rose of Tralee competition,” explains Maria Bourke, “and I was sitting at the end of Mount Street reflecting on the benefits to Tralee of their annual festival – guaranteed tourists each August, ongoing national and international publicity throughout the year, the boost to all businesses in the town during the festival and the hope this kindles in their community...

“I simply asked the question: ‘What could we do for Mullingar?’ and the answer ‘downloaded’ in my mind like a new computer program!”
Maria is not prepared to give away the details yet, not until the launch in Mullingar, which is due to take place next Friday November 21 at 6pm at Market Square.

“While we have not revealed the details publicly, we have had many conversations and meetings, not just in Mullingar and the midlands, but at national level, with great support from anyone we have approached.

“As my background is not in events – I first came to Mullingar in 1998 to set up The Sock Factory – I have had to do an enormous amount of research. I can now see that this has actually been a great advantage, as many people have had a chance to mould our plans and there is room for plenty more input too!”

Maria said the event is about everyone in Mullingar and the surrounding towns and villages: “We want to create an opportunity to showcase ourselves to the world,” she said.

Go along to Market Square today, Friday November 21, at 6pm when all will be revealed...
