Westmeath historical and archaeological society christmas event

The annual Christmas event of Westmeath Archaeological and Historical Society will take place in the Greville Arms Hotel, Mullingar on Wednesday November 26 at 8.30pm.

Tommy Cassidy, vice-chairman of the society, will show a selection of slides from the society’s outings and from his own collection.

These will include Windsor Castle, where President Michael D Higgins and his wife were guests of Queen Elizabeth II earlier this year; also Blenheim Castle, which was built between 1705 and 1722 for the Duke of Marlborough, and was the home of Sir Winston Churchill, who is buried on the grounds; Woburn Abbey, which was built in 1148; and Mount Stewart, Co. Down, which was built in 1804-5 for the Marquis of Londonderry.

Tommy will also show some slides taken in Walshestown, Cork, Mayo and Kilruddery House and Gardens in Wicklow.

This is always an enjoyable and very interesting event, and all are welcome to attend.
