Vouchers keep 120000 of christmas business in town

A staggering €120,000 has been spent in Mullingar businesses due to a “record year” for Mullingar Chamber vouchers.

The voucher system started 10 years ago and has been growing steadily but this year saw a bumper upsurge at Christmas and it means that everyone benefits.

“There’s an appetite for it again, people see the need for keeping money within the town and this is the ideal opportunity to do it,” explains Ian Gavin, the president of Mullingar Chamber.

Adding to that growth was the Westmeath Examiner, which held a competition offering four lucky winners the chance to get their hands on €50 worth of vouchers each.

Among the winners were Peter Dunne from Clongowney, Pauline Deasy, Millmount, Fiona Maher, Mullingar and Mary Cooney, Kinnegad.

Now Mullingar Chamber are looking to the year ahead with the biggest event on the calendar is the Mullingar Chamber of Commerce Awards night, which is set to be bigger than any in previous years. They will also be focusing on new business promotion.
