Participants in the Westmeath's Fittest Company 2014 at the start of finals day in Columb Barracks, Mullingar.

Your chance to prove you are westmeaths fittest company

Event launch in The Greville Arms Hotel today, Thursday, 6pm: Bressie is doing the honours and we hear Alan Mullen of Operation Transformation might be there too.

Maurice Looby Fitness and Cancer Support Sanctuary LARCC are hosting the second annual inter-company charity event, Westmeath’s Fittest Company 2015. Businesses are invited to raise funds for charity while getting fit and attempting to claim the title.

“In this environment we are all concerned about our fitness and making sure we are both mentally and physically fit for the daily challenges we encounter, so why not raise some funds for Cancer Support Sanctuary LARCC while doing so?” said Maurice.

A 12-week training programme (developed by Maurice Looby Fitness) starts on Tuesday February 3 at Columb Army Barracks, and Thursday February 5 at Our Ladies Bower College, Athlone and runs up to the main event on Saturday April 25, also in Columb Barracks.

This years teams will consist of four people – a mix of male and female but must contain at least one of each gender, who will compete in a number of disciplines, with some interesting changes from last year’s format, to be named Westmeath’s Fittest Company 2015.

The current title holders for 2014 are Mergon International in Castlepollard.

Last year the companies involved found they benefited from a fitness point of view and it did wonders for staff morale – and was an affordable team-building exercise over a three-month period. Throughout the training, the event itself and of course the after-party, there were ample opportunities to network with other businesses in Westmeath, ranging from the small family run company to the bigger employers. It’s a great way to get your business name out there, said Maurice.

“We are currently recruiting stall-holders for the event day and hope to bring an exciting family fun day to Mullingar while showing the great work that LARCC do,” he added.

The entry fee of €300 entitles each team of four (plus two subs) to 12 group training sessions, group mentoring and advice, sponsorship pack and licence for the event.

The official launch is Thursday January 22 at 6pm in The Greville Arms Hotel, Mullingar. Bressie, the public face of Cancer Support Sanctuary LARCC, promises to be there, among others, and you can register there or beforehand by contacting Maurice Looby on 087 2308001 or Cancer Support Sanctuary LARCC on 044 9371971.
