Governments new tourism policy will benefit the midlands says mcfadden

Fine Gael Longford Westmeath TD, Gabrielle McFadden, has welcomed the launch of the Government’s new tourism policy saying it will benefit tourism in the Midlands.

‘People, Place and Policy – Growing Tourism to 2025’ launched this week by Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Paschal Donohoe, targets €5 billion in revenue from 10 million overseas visits by 2025.

"This commitment is good news for the Midlands which has so much to offer to tourists and depends so much on this sector," said Gabrielle McFadden.

“The Government is very committed to tourism growth as part of its plan to spread the economic recovery to all regions of Ireland.

"The €4 million investment to develop an off-road cycleway/walkway route between Athlone and Mullingar is clear evidence of this commitment.

"This Greenway will undoubtedly be of major benefit to local economies along the route when it opens later this year.

“Countless businesses in this region depend on tourism and it is a key target area for this Government in terms of creating jobs in the regions.

“I’m also pleased that hoteliers in the Midlands have strongly endorsed the Government’s new tourism policy.

“The Midlands region is well placed to benefit from this ambitious new ten year tourism plan.”
