Shane wants westmeath to power on

Westmeath’s upturn in fortunes this season is down to the professionalism and positive reinforcement of the “two Michaels”, according to man of the moment Shane Power.
Named the Player of the Week in a recent poll in GAA.ie, teak tough defender Power is enjoying his best season in a county jersey. The Clonkill man told the Westmeath Examiner that he and his team mates are enjoying life under the stewardship of Ryan and his assistant, Kilkenny great, Michael Walsh.
“Michael is praising us the whole time on our hurling ability. It’s very professional this year. We have to watch what we eat,” says Power. “Even with training you have to be there at seven and togged out and ready to go at half seven. Everyone is pumped and working hard in training. It’s paying off on the pitch.”
After two home victories against Carlow and Antrim, Westmeath travel to Laois on Sunday knowing that a win in O’Moore Park will secure a Leinster quarter final in Cusack Park against Offaly.
While stressing that no-one is looking beyond Sunday’s game, Power says that the squad are eager to remain in the championship for as long as possible.
“A quarter-final against Offaly in Cusack Park would be a huge game . If we beat them we’d be in territory Westmeath hurling hasn’t been in for the last few years.”
