50 new jobs to be created at new mullingar primary care centre

Up to 50 new “long-term jobs” will be created when Mullingar’s new Primary Care Centre is up and running next year, according to its developer.

The multi-million euro Robinstown development, which was given the green light by local planners last week, will be one of the biggest primary care centres in the country when it is complete.

Construction is set to commence next month and is expected to last for 12 months.

Speaking to the Westmeath Examiner, Pat Nolan of developer Feasible Ltd revealed that more than 100 people will be employed during the construction phase.

He also estimates that 50 new “long-term jobs” will be created when building is complete and the centre is open.

“The centre will be, in terms of size, in the top five in the country,” said Mr Nolan.

“The floor area granted is approximately 40,000 square feet, which is not far shy of an acre, although it will be over three floors.

“It will contain the HSE with all its primary care teams, it will contain a mental health day hospital and day care centre and at least two GP practices, which are already in the town. It will also contain a pharmacy and a cafe.”

Mr Nolan also revealed that the centre will contain a second government department which will be “involved in the health area”.

Specialising in the development of primary care centres and nursing homes, Feasible will be operating the new primary care centre in Mullingar along the “traditional landlord model”, Mr Nolan says.

While most of the new tenants will be moving from existing premises in the locality, he believes that there is “scope” for job creation in the future.

“There will be scope (for new jobs) as services will get expanded as providers, both public and private, will have more space.”
