Hospice prepare for mini marathon on bank holiday

The 10k mini marathon organised by the North Westmeath Hospice Fundraising Committee Mullingar Branch is on bank holiday Monday, June 1, at noon from the Harbour Shopping Centre car park.

Registration is on the morning from 11-11.45am in the car park, or at the Hospice Office in Mary Street from 10am to 1pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. You can also register all day, Saturday May 30, at Kerrigan’s Bar, Harbour Street. The fee is €15.

The route: from Dunnes car park out Harbour Street to the railway bridge, down the Robinstown boreen past Oliver Plunketts Club grounds, out the Castlepollard Road as far as the Cullion Roundabout, along the Cullionbeg Road to Ballagh, in the Delvin Road past St Loman’s Hospital and then along the new Robinstown Road from Dalton Park to the Castlepollard Road at the Robinstown roundabout and back by way of Oliver Plunketts Club grounds.

The finishing line is on Harbour Street at Loreto College.

The route passes a number of historic Mullingar landmarks, from the Royal Canal Harbour, built in 1808, and Loreto College, opened in 1881, to the Mullingar-Longford railway line, which began operating in 1855, and St Loman’s Hospital, opened in 1855.

Harbour Street was built as it is now in the 1810s. There will be refreshments for all in Kerrigan’s after the race. For information, phone Carmel on 086 382 4048 or Marie on 087 975 3240.
