Mullingar lions club donates 26000 to local charities

Mullingar Lions Club President, Frank Dillon, hosted a reception in the Greville Arms Hotel on Tuesday July 14 for members of local charities and services along with members of the Lions Club.

Kicking off the reception, Frank reminded the audience that Mullingar Lions Club was founded in 1979, and has donated more than a million euro since to local charities, families in need, and services.

In addition to financial support for these local charities, the Lions club also provides services such as Nursing Home visitations, Message in a Bottle, launch of the MYSELF booklet and app that supports positive mental health, Christmas Food Appeal which helps provide hampers for over 400 local families in need, and organising the Health Work and Wellness seminar.

On the night, the Lions Club presented five cheques to five very worthy causes, totalling €26,000.

The €20,000 raised from the Spring Spin to Sligo organized by the club was allocated as follows: €15,000 to the North Westmeath Hospice, €2,500 to the Carers Association and €2,500 to the St Brigid’s bus fund.

In addition, €5,000 was donated to TEAM (Temporary Emergency Accommodation Mullingar) and €1,000 to the Nepal Earthquake Appeal.

The Lions Club would like to re-iterate that there are no administration charges or fees, and every euro donated by the public, goes to help local services and families in need.

Lastly, Mullingar Lions Club would like thank the people of the locality for their continued generosity, without which we would not be able to support these badly needed and worthwhile services.
