Keep the umbrellas close to hand over the weekend.

Mixed weather bag for weekend

A mixture of sunshine and showers is expected to dominate Westmeath’s weather over the coming days.

Friday evening’s rain is expected to clear overnight with Saturday set to dawn fine and bright in the east of the country and in the midlands.

Later on Saturday more persistent rain will move in, pushed on by a southwesterly wind which will see temperatures paring back.

Once again a clearance overnight will allow for a bright start to Sunday but by mid afternoon rain is expected to return to the midlands though football followers travelling to Croke Park can expect a mainly fine day, weatherwise!

Monday should start dry and bright before another raft of rainfall moves in from the west, with as much as 7mm forecast for the midlands.

However, with forecasters predicting a fine spell of weather from mid week, the brollies can be discarded but not before Tuesday!
