Tricolour lowered as mullingar courthouse closes for renovations

The lowering of the tricolour over Mullingar Courthouse on Monday afternoon was a historic moment for staff at Mullingar Courthouse.

Manager of the Mullingar Court Office, Margaret O’Rafferty, soilictor Trish Cronin and Pat Hearty, caretaker for the last 11 years, were there to perform the honour.

The district court will now move to St Loman’s GAA, while renovations and an extension are carried out at the Courthouse on Mullingar’s Mount Street.

It is expected the Courthouse will re-open in three years time, and will see not only the district court return, but also the circuit court - currently held in Tullamore, residing in Mullingar once more.
