Róisín's angels to go on sale in November

A badge designed by a Mullingar student is to go on sale as one of the range that the Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) will sell as part of its annual national fundraising campaign, 'Angels’, which takes place in November.
Loreto College transition year student Róisín Flanagan has been named as Western Region winner in the national competition.
Róisín entered her 'Ariette the Art Angel’ in the Angels pin design competition and was thrilled to be told that her unique and creative design will be reproduced, manufactured and sold by the IWA as part of its national fundraising campaign.
In early January, the IWA called on TY students nationwide to submit entries to find five new designs for Angels pins.
The association requested that designs be submitted in hard or soft copy format and they could be based on any concept or theme, but had to incorporate the Angels brand (Halo, Angel Wings and Cartoon Style Face).
In total more than 100 designs were submitted and last week the four regional finalists and the overall winner of the competition accepted their awards.
Speaking at the event, Kathleen McLoughlin, CEO of the IWA, said: “The Angels Campaign seeks to raise funds to ensure that we continue to lead the way in improving the lives of people with physical disabilities, their families and communities.
“During the campaign, volunteers throughout Ireland sell Angels Pins and other products in shopping centres, schools and town centres. One of the key aspects of the campaign is the announcement and launch of the new Angels Pin designs each year.
“The IWA relies heavily on the support of the communities in which we are based. Over the years, we have developed excellent working relationships with secondary schools and in preparation for our Angels Campaign we appealed for their assistance with our Angel designs.
“We were looking for creative and original designs that will be great additions to our Angels Pin collection and we are so pleased with the five new Angels Pin designs which have been selected.”
Angels is the IWA’s only national fundraising campaign and this year the national collection days are on Thursday November 10 and Friday 11.
The winning designs selected from the Angels Pin Design competition will be made into official Angels Pins and sold by volunteers throughout Ireland for €2 each.
