140kmh speed at Ballinalack recorded in Operation Slow Down

A 140kmh speeding incident recorded near Ballinalack was at the top of a list of such detections issued by An Garda Síochána at the weekend.

An Garda Síochána and GoSafe conducted operation ‘Slow Down’ between 7am on Friday May 27 and 7am on Saturday May 28. The objective was to reduce the number of speed related collisions, save lives and reduce injuries on the roads.

In the 24 hours, An Garda Síochána and GoSafe checked the speed of 176,521 vehicles of which 322 were detected travelling in excess of the speed limit.

Chief Aidan Reid, Garda National Traffic Bureau, thanked drivers who continue to be compliant and drive within the speed limit, and reiterated the message, to all motorists – drive safely and slow down.

• 82kmh in a 60kmh on the R563 at Faha East, Faha, Kerry

• 83kmh in a 60kmh on the N21 at Croagh, Rathkeale, Limerick

• 133kmh in a 100kmh zone on the N3 at Huntstown, Dublin 15

• 88kmh in a 60kmh zone on the N20 at Baltydaniel, West Mallow, Cork
