UDPATED - Man in court over Kilbeggan cattle theft

A man with an address in Co Donegal has appeared in court in Athlone in connection with the alleged theft of 100 livestock stolen from a farm in Kilbeggan in June of last year.

The 75 cattle and 25 sheep were stolen from the farm of Niall and Christa Dillon at Cornaher, Tyrrellspass.

Man charged with theft of cattle from Kilbeggan farm

 

A 30 year old Donegal man has been charged with the theft of more than €100,000 worth of cattle from a farm in Kilbeggan last year.

Barry Carr, with an address at Boeshill, Pettigo appeared before Judge Seamus Hughes at a sitting of Athlone District Court at lunchtime today, Wednesday.

Bail was not opposed and Mr Carr was remanded to appear before the court again on September 21 when a book of evidence will be served.

Represented by solicitor, Mark Cooney, Mr Carr was charged with, at Cornaher, Kilbeggan between June 24 and 25 last, stealing nine cows, nine calves and 53 cattle, total value, €100,000, the property of Niall Dillon.

He was further charged with, between the same dates, stealing four cattle and 25 mountain ewes, value €7,300, the property of Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine.

Inspector Aidan Minnock appeared for the DPP, while Det Sgt Eamon Curley gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution.
