Relay For Life event comes to Kinnegad
Relay for Life Kinnegad is being launched at noon on Saturday June 11 at Kinnegad Coralstown GAA Club, when the Relay for Life Team will be present between noon and 4pm to answer questions and register teams.
Relay For Life Kinnegad is on Saturday 20 August and Sunday 21 at Kinnegad Coralstown GAA Club. It is the first Relay for Life Event in Westmeath.
Relay for Life is an overnight community celebration which honours current and former cancer survivors, their families and friends.
Friends, neighbours, families and colleagues come together in teams of 10 to 15 to take part in the event, and all funds raised through sponsorship will go to the Irish Cancer Society.
Because cancer never sleeps, each team are asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the 24-hour event.
When not on track, team members are free to socialise, play games, enjoy 24-hour entertainment and participate in lots of fun activities.
The event starts with the Survivors’ Lap, when cancer survivors of all ages are invited to walk, cheered on by family, friends, and teams from the community.
The Candle of Hope ceremony takes place when darkness begins to fall. Before the event everyone in the community is invited to dedicate a Candle of Hope to someone they know who has been touched by cancer.
As the evening approaches, the candles are set around the track and lit by participants.
A meeting will be held in Harry’s Hotel, Kinnegad on Wednesday June 8 (7pm) seeking business and community support for the event.
